We recognise the vital role that nature plays in supporting those with ADHD, our training programmes and coaching interventions incorporate many aspects of nature, inclusive the practice of mindfulness. Using breathwork can assist in supporting the executive functioning skills which helps to manage impulsivity.
Breathwork improves heart rate variability and activates the parasympathetic nervous system carrying oxygen to the prefrontal cortex. Doing breathwork in nature with exposure to forests and trees, rather than doing breathwork indoors, will further increase the positive results. It is proven to boost the immune system, increase the ability to focus, reduce cortisol levels, regulate blood pressure and improve overall mood.
Whether pine cones, flowers, bark or soil all contribute to regulating the heart beat and relaxing the nervous system which is fundamental in supporting the working memory, aiding concentration, regulating impulsivity and managing anxiety. Even without practising breathwork, spending time in nature helps individuals to pay attention, helps with impulse control and overall mental health and wellbeing.
At ADHD in Balance, we encourage clients to consider their physical health as well as their metabolic health. Gut microbiome plays a huge role in health and we educate clients about the role of natural foods in their diet. Our interventions include education on ADHD and natural foods because we understand that sugar, food additives, preservatives, chemicals, toxins and flavourings do not support the brains of those with ADHD but that pre and probiotic foods, Omega 3 fatty acids, beans, fruits, vegetables and whole grains do. Clients are educated about ADHD, health and nutrition so that they can make informed choices about how to approach their physical and mental health in relation to their ADHD condition.
